Principal’s Report
Thank you to the EPS community and the local Rotary Club for getting behind this cause last Sunday and supporting me to slide! The Emerald and surrounds community came out in force to support the “sliders”. It was a fun afternoon, but also an excellent opportunity to learn more about this disease and the fight to find a cure and treatments. A final fundraising total will be announced on Friday.
Congratulations and thank you to the to staff and parents who ran an amazing camp recently for our Grade 6 students at Camp Woorabinda in Yallourn North. The team was made up of Craig Appleby, Felicity Bathgate, Tara Porter, Julie McKinsley, Sandra Cahill, Kady Huisintveld, David Gale, Megan Smith and Andrew Bailey – thank you one and all!. The students had a wonderful time at this great venue, and it showed in the smiles on all of the faces and tired eyes when the campers returned!
Stay tuned for more information on this exciting day on the calendar for the Grade 5 students – to be held next Wednesday 11th June. The students have been preparing for a number of weeks to run market stalls and fundraise for their chosen cause. Looking forward to purchasing some tasty treats, having fun at the games stalls and admiring the crafty items students have made!
We are excited to announce that the Swimming Program will be occurring in Weeks 9 and 10 of this term! If you go into Compass you will see how to register your student/s and pay for them to participate in the program this year, which runs from Grade Prep to Grade 6. Students will participate in 5 swimming lessons over a week. Please contact us if you have any queries. Registrations and payments need to be completed by Friday 6th June 2025.

This week …
A reminder from the office…
Could Parents please remind students who bring a mobile phone to school to leave them at the office.
Thank you.
From the 19th to the 23rd of May, Year 6 went to Camp Woorabinda, located on Fernlea Road, Yallourn North (about 15 minutes from Moe).
Some of the highlights of Woorabinda included canoeing, the zipline, billy carts, the rock climbing wall, the maze, and the high ropes course. The camp-out was also really fun and a great experience to try something new. We even camped overnight in tents, started our own campfires, and cooked our lunch over the fire.
Morning assemblies were especially interesting—in a good way!—particularly when the Power Rangers made an appearance, along with the news reporters and the weather segment. Each assembly featured a special song that celebrated all the fun and adventurous things we did at camp.
Woorabinda was huge, with many beautiful views from different parts of the property. The power plant across the road was also an impressive sight to admire. We visited the Woorabinda Camp Farm, where we fed the animals and helped out in the garden. We all made so many fun memories and have plenty of stories that will keep us laughing for weeks to come.

…to make sure Edith is safe, and doesn’t ride her horse this weekend (because she breaks her arm). Who am I? I’m you from the future ooooohhhhhh* scary ghost noises* – Elleny
6B
… don’t let anything get in my way that will ruin my camp experience – Savannah

Duolingo is an increasing popular language learning website and app which can be accessed for free to learn many different languages, including Japanese. It’s fun and motivating to learn with quirky Duolingo characters and points are earned for practising. We are encouraging students from Grade 3 – 6 to join the EPS Duolingo classroom and spend some time practising Japanese skills each week. An advantage of joining the EPS classroom is that students will have unlimited “hearts” so they can feel free to make mistakes without losing “hearts”.
While it is free to use, you will regularly see ads for their paid service. Rest assured; there’s no need to join the paid service.
And if students are already learning with Duolingo, they can join the EPS classroom and take their learning history with them – they don’t have to start from scratch.
In Grade 3 and 4, we have had a strong focus on learning the 46 hiragana characters and Duolingo can be a great support to learning to read hiragana.
To join the EPS class from a computer, follow the link below.
www.duolingo.com/classroom/jfbvww
If you currently have an account, you can use the code jfbvww to join the EPS class.
To join from a smartphone or tablet, see the attached information.
Looking forward to seeing lots of names on the leaderboard!

If so please bring them to the Emerald SES to be recycled. Emerald Primary School is now a registered donation partner with the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme. So your rubbish can be recycled and each empty container earns 10c. Please donate the money you collect to our school, so we can fundraise for more drink taps on the school oval.
