Through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths), students at Emerald Primary School are learning about the changing world they live in. They are curious about how and why things work the way they do and enthusiastically dive into learning about and investigating scientific principles, engineering design and technological advances.
Science
The Science programme at Emerald Primary School encourages all students to explore and ask questions about the world they live in. Students participate in hands-on investigations and problem based learning with the aim of promoting scientific curiosity in a collaborative setting. We endeavour to develop scientific skills such as posing questions, gathering data, reaching conclusions and communicating results. Students are also word inquirers when thinking about scientific language and science used as a human endeavour, linking back to Literacy at Emerald Primary School.
Emerald Primary School has an extensive range of resources to engage students in the area of design and technology. Our robotics resources provide practical opportunities for students to become confident and creative developers of digital solutions.
Our fully equipped kitchen with work stations is ideal in providing the resources needed to cook up a storm. The children enjoy demonstrating their artistic and innovative skills to create delicious and interesting looking food. Together we explore where our food comes from and how it is grown, farmed and produced for our consumption.
Engineering principles are interwoven throughout our science and technology learning. Students learn about the process an engineer takes to design, test, modify and develop solutions to real world needs and problems. Whenever we explore engineering principles, it always links to scientific understanding and Maths is keenly used throughout the process.
