Principal’s Report

We were very excited to have the EPS Disco last Saturday. The disco ran from 4pm to 8pm in the EPS Stadium, with food truck options available, but also families brought picnics – which was lovely to see! A very large thanks goes to Peta Woodyard, our School Council Fundraising Co-ordinator for organising such a fun event for everyone. Thank you also to the team who supported her!

Any families considering enrolling their children at Emerald Primary School for Prep 2025 were invited to visit our school yesterday for our Open Day. We held school tours all day for our visitors to see EPS “in action”. It was great to meet everyone! If you would still like to book a tour, please go to the EPS website, as they run everyone Tuesday and Thursday.

Exciting Events last week …

On Saturday 4th May, the grade sixes headed down to Calder Park Raceway for our first Human Powered Vehicle race. It was a huge day, being a 7-hour endurance race. In the spots of sunshine, the grade six students did an amazing job racing! The track was part of the existing drag racing strip and it also had a massive hill that a lot of teams struggled with! The race began at 9am and the students took turns racing for around half an hour in the carts at a time right up until 5pm. There was a sense of fun and a can-do attitude in the air, and the students had a fabulous time. We are so grateful for all the parent support on the day, without which, events like this do not happen. It was such a wonderful experience. A special thank you to Mr Jason McLeod for towing the carts in the big trailer to and from the race and for the parents who helped us out with marshalling on the track – including pushing the struggling carts up the hill all day. We really appreciate you all!

Thanks and regards,

The Grade Six Team

Last Saturday saw us host the EPS Disco Family Fun Night, it was a fantastic turn out with over 400 tickets sold!

There was plenty of singing and dancing and lots of fun had by all.

A huge heartfelt thanks goes to DJ CAPZ, AKA Carl Weinberg who kindly volunteered his time, expertise, and equipment for the event. I truly appreciate his enthusiasm and generosity.

Thankyou also to Olivia McLeod, Narelle Oberin, Shannon and Adam Bird, Bonnie Weinberg and their families for their help in setting up and running the night.

The kids are already asking when’s the next one!

This week …

It’s Walk to School day on Friday 10th May!

Any students that participate can get a “walk to school tattoo” from Mr Stella.

Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria.

In 2024, Victoria will celebrate Education Week from Monday 13 May to Friday 17 May.

This year’s theme, Spotlight on STEM, highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in our everyday lives, in the classroom and beyond.

Throughout Education Week, students, parents/carers, teachers, and school communities are encouraged to celebrate and share ideas to learn more about the endless possibilities of STEM.

EPS will be celebrating Education Week in the following ways:

  • This week’s Buddy Grade session will be focusing on a fun STEM activity to get us ready and excited for the fun plans of next week’s STEM classes.
  • Mrs Nelmes and Mrs Seamer have planned their classes where they will run some ‘STEMonstrations’ to excite EPS students and bring more curiosity to the world around them.
